Nuthatch.
I finished work at Midday, so inspired by various photographs of Crossbills and Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers posted on the web of late, I visited the two sites where they had been seen and photographed over the past week. Starting at Clowes wood, i walked to the spot where the Nightjars are normally found, and on to the pylon line a little further on, but if the Crossbills were about, they were hiding from me, so had to make do with a photo of a ChiffChaff instead (they all count). I did note 4 Tree creepers, with most of the expected woodland birds in attendance, and a passing Sparrow-hawk flew over, nearly un noticed. I only stayed for 20 minutes, and on the way back to Stodmarsh, I stopped off at the woodland area along the Thornden Wood road, and walking the footpath towards Herne, I heard a Nuthatch, and after waiting for a while, I was able to entice three to a few nuts strategically placed along the path. I then moved on to Trenley Woods near the Stodmarsh reserve, and the place where we heard the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker on Monday, and where Mark Heath got his photos yesterday. More Tree Creepers seen, but sadly I never saw or heard a Woodpecker of any description. I moved on to Stodmarsh, where a pair of Jays gave me the run around in the car park, and still I have not managed a Jay photo to date. A new arrival of ChiffChaffs was evident, and there seemed to be a singing bird in every bush, and I noticed that Blackcaps are now arriving in numbers, with 3 Males and a Female seen in the Alder wood, and a pair of Males seen whilst getting the Nuthatch photos.
