A trip to Seasalter and Oare Marshes.

A Kestrel, seen catching a small Rodent at Seasalter this morning.
A day with no work, so I arranged to meet Mike Gould, on his local patch, Seasalter, just before 9 o clock this morning. The tide was just leaving the beach, and a Kestrel was watched around the beach hut area behind the Sportsman pub, where it caught a small Rodent, and landed on a fence post to devour its kill. A flock of Goldfinches were observed, and a pair of Oyster catchers were seen, but very little else apart from a Male Marsh harrier in the distance, so we decided to go to Oare Marshes, where photo opportunities are usually good. We spent a couple of hours there, where Black-tailed Godwits were obliging, flying periodically around the East flood, and allowing flight shots to be obtained, along with several other photo’s, of Little Egret, Black-headed Gulls and the common wildfowl that are ever present on the reserve. Mike left, so I busied myself trying to get a few flight shots of the Sand Martins hawking over the pools, a tricky exercise, but good fun. It certainly tests the focusing lock on the camera, if nothing else. I did start to record a day list, but nothing out of the ordinary was seen, so I lost interest and stopped writing.
