Great Crested Grebes at Stodmarsh.
Great Crested Grebes at Stodmarsh.
As this evening was the first sunshine seen this week, I went to Stodmarsh, hoping for a photo opportunity with the WHISKERED TERN, but although I picked the bird out immediately, it stayed on its preferred perch, to the rear of the Cormorant tree. After 20 minutes, the Tern took of, and flew North East, and gained height, looking as though it had had enough of his stay at Stodmarsh, and was set for pastures new. A scan of the main lake revealed very little, Several Common Terns, a Bar Headed Goose looking some what odd in amongst the local Greylag flock, and most of the time was spent watching the Swifts overhead. I did not note any Swallows or Martins during my stay this evening. After 40 minutes, I scanned the main lake again, and once more the WHISKERED TERN had returned, and had taken up residence on his roosting post. Shortly after I left, mentally noting a return very soon, to try and get some decent pictures of the bird.
