A singing Male Blackcap in the Alder Wood this morning.
A couple of hours at Stodmarsh this morning, with a trip to the Marsh hide, revealed very little in the way of incoming Migrants. A single Swallow was seen in the Stodmarsh Village, with Chaffinches, Goldfinches and House Sparrows, and once the car was parked in the car park at Stodmarsh, singing Chiffchaff’s and Blackcap’s could be heard immediately. Noticeable in the Alder wood was the arrival of several female Blackcaps, but although the sun was out, they proved difficult to capture on camera, as they darted in and out of the shadows amongst the trees and undergrowth. A 30 minute visit to the Marsh hide provided us with a Grey Heron to look at, and a pair of Marsh harriers were seen to the left of the hide. In the company of Mike Gould and Mick Sinden , we wandered back to the Alder wood, noting 2 Sedge Warblers on the way, where nothing else was seen of note, bar a couple of Tree Creepers and a flock of Long-tailed Tits. Very quiet on the Migrant front, but surely not to much longer to wait.
