Female Mallard from the Turf Field Hide.
A brief visit to Grove ferry, this afternoon, my first trip out this week, started with a Female Hen Harrier being seen as I made my way through Upstreet, and my first Swallows of the year were noted, 2 flying over the field to the rear of the Harrison’s Drove hide, and a single bird seen flying over the main pool from the viewing ramp. Other birds of note were 4 Chiffchaffs along the river, 8 Wigeon, 4 Drakes and 4 Ducks on the Oxbow, 2 Redshank on the Water Meadows by Paddy’s Bench, and 2 more from the Ramp, a single Green Sandpiper, with 2 more Redshank from the Harrison’s Drove hide, and a Common Buzzard was also seen, flying over the field to the rear of the Harrison’s Drove hide, being continually mobbed by a Carrion Crow. Cetti’s Warblers were in fine voice around the reserve, and at least 7 Marsh Harriers were noted.
